My country is so heterogenic. There are many tribes from Sabang to Merauke. I am proud as an Indonesian because we are trying to live in harmony that many countries hard to achieve. It is so simple; we can look at the traditions like gotong royong or work together. It does not apart from habit and tradition and also history. The founding fathers believe that we are one, unity in diversity. The questions are: why we live in harmony? What cause that happen? How it goes?
Why we live in harmony?
We believe that harmony creates more tolerances among others. Most Indonesians have social sensitivity. I see it when I ride public transportation. The driver sometimes makes a chat with the passenger, the topic is not far from daily life, and how we endure this "hard" life, economics, and education. I wonder why they still laughing and smiling even thought (maybe) in another perspective, life is very hard and we cannot even smile. Happiness is coming from simplicity. I see many westerners thought that happiness is coming from making a lot of money so we can buy everything we want. It is not just about money. Money can make us crying too.
What cause that happen?
It is complex when we talk about the causes, because it has relation with history. I see two things that unite my nations; there are football and another country's invasion. Football is something worth to watch. It increase the feel of nationality, we support the same team. There is a bond and feeling "We are one". It becomes phenomena too. The film producers try to make film about football. It calls "Garuda Di Dadaku". I think the founding fathers philosophy affect much in our daily life. We cannot forget that we have Bung Karno, the first president of Indonesia speak about nationality with the high spirit.
How it goes?
It goes very simple, in simplest way. It is attached within Indonesian's heart.
